January 2025
New Year's Day and Spirit is in her stable. I took this series of photos of her rising from a very relaxed lie down. Just look at how her ears are always pricked and alert.
4th January 2025
Max is out in his field enjoying the sun. You can see his mane is growing nicely. And he likes to doze with the sun on his face.
9th January 2025
Max has a lie down and roll in his field in the winter sunshine. I like to see if I can take a sequence of photos

12th January 2025
The first snow to lie on the ground, so time for the Fells to have hay put out in their field. Max having his morning hay
9th - 10th January 2025
Spirit experiences her first snow. She is now out in a paddock with a companion as she continues her time of being weaned. She will be seperated from Joy for a month, so her mum's milk can dry up. Then they can be reunited.
13th January 2025
The Snow did not last long.
Max enjoys seeing the grass again.
It is very hard taking videos of Max because if I am in his field he wants to walk up to me. He is very friendly

Max after being turned out following the visit from the farrier. He was good to have his feet trimmed and a friend managed to take a couple of photos.
21st January
Spirit goes back out in her paddock after having her feet trimmed by the farrier. She was very good , but my photos didn't come out!
27-28th January 2025
I just can't stop taking photos of the foals, though technically they are now yearlings, because we have passed 1st January. Here are photos of Spirit. She is handled and gets a last time of being tied up so she learns to stand quietly in her box. Spirit is then turned back out with her mum Joy, now that she has been weaned and separated from her mum for a month and won't try to milk from her anymore. You can see that Joy tolerates her more than the other Fells, and Spirit doesn't try to take liberties. As a yearling Spirit has to learn her place in the herd.
27-28th January 2025
Max is now moved to a new paddock with our old mare Jez, so Spirit can be reunited with her mum, without them getting too excited.

This is my favourite photo of Max for this month. I know he is muddy but look how alert he is and how he can bend naturally.
This is my favourite photo of Spirit for January as it shows Spirit reunited with her mum Joy and means she is now a yearling, grown up and no longer dependent on her mum.
